Welcome to the site of the Lane Cove River Kayakers.

Lane Cove River Kayakers is a marathon racing and fitness kayak club, based at Chatswood Athletic Field, corner Mowbray Road and Epping Road, Sydney. We have about 120 members, with a broad range in ages, and have forged a reputation of being a relaxed and friendly club. While competition is intense on the water, we are at all times very supportive of each other. We’re 13km from the city and a million miles from care.

We meet every Wednesday evening throughout the year for a 6.25pm start, 12km time trial, paddling in tranquil Lane Cove River up to Fullers Bridge and down almost to Figtree Bridge. The shorter 6km paddle can be timed also and is recommended for newcommers to the sport. Visitors are most welcome.

On the second Wednesday of each month we have a barbecue after the time trial and enjoy the company of visitors.

The Club has established itself as the premier marathon racing club in NSW, being a leading club in the State Marathon 10 Series, champion club in the Hawkesbury Canoe Classic for 6 successive years; and has produced several winners of the Murray Marathon. We strongly support the sport of marathon kayak and ski racing and regularly have 30 or more competitors in events.

Many of our members also compete internationally in endurance races such as the Yukon River Quest (Canada) and the Fish River Marathon (South Africa) and in associated sports like adventure racing.

While the emphasis is on racing, we founded and participate actively in Paddle NSW’s program of recreational paddles exploring scenic waterways within easy driving distance of Sydney. Typically they cover 16-20km and last several hours, with a break for lunch. Visitors are encouraged, and inexperienced paddlers could consider joining a stronger paddler in a double kayak.
