Racing at the PA Canoe Marathon Championships will be by gender, age group and boat type (ICF and General Class). For Masters, racing will be in 5-year age categories if there are three or more entrants per gender-age-boat class. Anyone who has their 35th birthday in 2026 or who is older than 35 years, can race in the Masters classes.
As per the PA Competitions Policy (PDF - Section 8. Awards, page 8), a paddler must beat someone to win a medal (gold is awarded if there are 2 boats starting the race; silver if there are 3 and bronze if there are 4 starters in the race). For a class to be contested, there must be a minimum of 3 entries and two starters. Given that we will have awesome prizes for anyone who comes 4th, round up your mates and encourage them to enter so that there are at least 4 boats in each gender, age and boat class. That way, PA will award a gold, silver and bronze medal in your event and 4th will win something even cooler!
PA is committed to supporting our Junior and 65+ Master Paddlers. Gold, silver and bronze medals will be awarded to U10-U18s and 65+ finishers, regardless of how many boats enter each category. But don’t let this stop us from having as many boats in these classes as possible. Let us CELEBRATE those who are young and committed to Marathon Paddling and those who are still paddling at 65+.
2026 PA Canoe Marathon Championships is a CELEBRATION of Marathon Paddling. We invite all marathon paddlers to come and join the PARTY. Go to the BGCC website (link up the top) for ALL the information..

Round #1 - Sat 31 Jan - Wagga Bidgee Bash, hosted by WBCC **POSTPONED**
POSTPONED Wagga Bidgee Canoe Club is happy to be hosting the first round of the PaddleNSW 2026 Marathon Series in partnership with Tango Charlie Lights, which kicks off on Saturday 31 January - offering one-way, down river courses for all Divisions.

HOT WEATHER AND START TIME UPDATE!! (as at Sun 25 Jan 4pm)
Wagga Bidgee Canoe club is monitoring the current weather situation across Australia closely.
We have been in consultation with Paddle NSW, local committee members and Wagga’s VRA Unit.
While temperatures throughout the week are going to be in the extreme, some forecasting models have conditions abating for Saturday.
With the current available data, we will be moving the start time of the race to 9:30am.
In discussion with Paddle NSW, we may also compress some of the division start times to assist in having the majority of paddlers off the river before the hotter parts of the day.
Please note that further comms will be provided Thursday morning if there are any changes to this advice.
In addition to the start time, we ask paddlers and supporters to note the following:
* Everyone must be well hydrated and should bring their own hydrolyte/sports drinks and carry sufficient for the duration of the race
- River egress points will be Breahour Reserve (second start location), Eunony Bridge Reserve (third start location) and Wagga Beach (finish)
- Water will be available at Eunony Bridge Reserve
- All paddlers must make it known to other paddlers and the VRA rescue boats if they are exiting the race, or are experiencing any difficulties - mechanical, medical or other issues.
The river height is currently sitting at 2.4m, which is a good height for paddling. Last year’s race was between 2.4-2.7m for reference.
Information regarding Sunday's criterion race, the Bidgee Dash will be advised in the coming days.
